Although, it was only he who knew, only he who remembered, and in order to tell the story properly, I need to start from where it began. It wasn't when the boy-man emerged from the Chamber of Sages, nor was it when he fought the parasite within the Deku Tree. It began with the second nightmare of Princess Zelda, and before Link acquired the Ocarina of time. It was when Ganon began his attack.
